Kentucky Medicaid Waiver Program Consumer Directed Option Service
The Consumer Directed Option (CDO) is a service option for individuals in the Kentucky Medicaid Waiver Program. CDO allows Medicaid waiver members to choose their own providers for non-medical waiver services. CDO is available for Kentucky Medicaid Waiver members who currently receive or become eligible to receive services through the Home and Community Based Waiver (HCB), Supports for Community Living Waiver (SCL), and the Acquired Brain Injury Waiver (ABI). The ability to choose one’s own provider allows greater freedom of choice and flexibility in the provision of services.
Services
All waiver recipients choosing to utilize the CDO have a Support Broker. This person makes monthly visits with the consumer to help ensure that the care needed is being provided. The Support Broker also manages any documentation required by Medicaid in order to maintain the consumer’s waiver status. The following is a list of services offered for each individual waiver program:
- HCB: Homemaker, Personal Care, Attendant Care, and Respite
- SCL: Adult Day Training, Community Living Supports, Supported Employment, Respite
- ABI: Personal Care, Respite, Companion Services
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Medicaid waiver program, the individual must meet the level of care criteria for a nursing facility or intermediate care facility, along with financial eligibility for Medicaid. Detailed information regarding eligibility may be obtained by contacting any Home Health Agency, Adult Day Health Center, Supports for Community Living provider, Acquired Brain Injury provider as applicable, or the local Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living.
