Area Agency on Aging:
Mental Health Coalition
The Bluegrass Mental Health and Aging Coalition (BMHAC) is a partnership of professionals and consumers who have come together around the need for outreach and education in the area of mental health and aging. The BMHAC was funded with State Mental Health Coalition funds for the 2008 fiscal year.
Activities
BMHAC funds will be used to provide training for professionals who work with the elderly to be followed by training tailored for consumers and their families that are dealing with mental illness. These training activities will focus on signs and symptoms of mental illness, resources available, and distinctions between dementia and mental illness. Clark County is the regional pilot site It will be piloted in Clark County with the goal to reach out to other counties in the future.
Membership
The Bluegrass Mental Health and Aging Coalition is open to anyone who is interested in an organization of professional and laypersons looking to improve the management and awareness of Mental Health and Substance Abuse issues among the elderly.
